  1. Hvor stort samfunnsproblem utgjør alternative fakta og falske nyheter i dag?

Alternative fakta og falske nyheter er uforutsigbare, tikkende bomber. Noen kan smelle som en kinaputt, som at uheldige stakkarer kjøper dårlige produkter, andre kan gi svært alvorlige følger, som det vi så ved stormingen av Kongressen i USA. Problemet er foreløpig langt mer vidstrekkende internasjonalt enn her hjemme. Organisasjonen Reporters without Borders har over tid vært bekymret for at mange politiske regimer bruker fokuset på falske nyheter til å begrense ytringsfriheten. Selv har jeg i mange år vært bekymret for tilliten både til pressen og helsevesenet, sistnevnte kan for eksempel slite med å nå ut med god informasjon om livsviktige helsetiltak som vaksiner, dersom det drukner i strømmen av skremselspropaganda forkledd som nyheter og saklig informasjon. Sistnevnte frø gror ekstremt godt i følelsesgjødselen i sosiale medier.

  1. Hva tenker du om risikoen for at utvikling av ny teknologi, slik som kunstig intelligens og deepfake, kan medføre for økt spredning av desinformasjon, kort- og langsiktig?

Deep fake har et nær sagt uendelig potensial for desinformasjon, i liten og stor skala. Spesielt ser jeg at ytre høyre er gode på å lage virale humorvideoer og memes som lett får spredning. Kunstig intelligens som «min AI» på Snapchat er alt annet enn faktamessig pålitelig. Sammen er det klart at disse – ved siden av de positive mulighetene de bringer, som gøye scener med Luke Skywalker i The Mandalorian eller artige samtaler om hvem AI tror du er, i verste fall vanner ut evne og vilje til å skille og sortere.

  1. Hvordan kan man best ruste oppvoksende generasjoner til å utvise god kildekritikk og skille mellom hva som er sant og usant? Bør kritisk tenkning inn som eget fag på skolen?

Kritisk tenking bør i mine øyne være en integrert del av alle fag, ikke en utskilt del. Forskningsbasert metode og fakta som grunnlag for holdninger og standpunkt er en måte å være i verden på mer enn en slags metode eller tenkemåte man skrur av og på.

  1. Hva kan journalister gjøre for å sikre seg mot å bli ufrivillige mikrofonstativ eller medløpere for aktører med sine egne agendaer?

Det kan vi ikke. Ord og bilder er mektige våpen, og våpen, selv dem som er ment med de aller beste intensjoner, kan alltid misbrukes dersom de er i feil hender. Men vi kan være knallharde i etikk og på fakta, og underbygge sakene våre på gode måter, samt unngå klikktitler som lett kan screenshottes og mistolkes med vilje.

  1. Hvilken tilnærming bør det offentlige anvende overfor åpenbart feilaktige og samfunnsskadelige ideer, uten å fremstå som et meningspoliti?
