Intervju: Kaveh Rashidi

Tredje del av vår intervjuserie med stemmer vi føler representerer vårt verdisyn på en god måte. I denne runden er det Kaveh Rashidi, lege og forfatter, som har takket ja til å svare på våre spørsmål.

1. Ved siden av ditt virke som lege har du også tatt på deg en rolle som folkeopplyser, og deltatt aktivt i samfunnsdebatten. Hva var det som motiverte deg til å ta dette steget?

Som lege er det et mål for meg å bidra til at folk får så god helse som mulig. Ved siden av å møte mennesker ansikt til ansikt som fastlege, så synes jeg det er mye potensiell helse i å spre riktig og viktig informasjon til befolkningen.

2. Det spres mye ren feilinformasjon, spesielt via sosiale medier, om alt fra kosthold til vaksiner. Noe av dette er av en slik art at det representerer fare for liv og helse. Hva mener du kan være gode måter å motarbeide dette på?

Jeg tror det er viktig å jobbe med mange løsninger samtidig, for det å spre kunnskap på en måte som når ut til folk er blant de aller største utfordringene vi har. All verdens forskning og vitenskap hjelper
lite hvis folk ikke har tillit eller tilgang til den. Men for å få til dette må man gjøre mye samtidig. For eksempel må man lære barn kildekritikk i skolen, men det er like viktig at vi fagfolk allerede nå deltar i debatten slik at feilinformasjonen ikke blir for overveldende for folk. Dessverre er det et debattmiljø omkring mange tema som gjør det vanskelig for mange å delta i offentligheten.

3. I hvilken grad mener du konspirasjonsteorier rundt legemiddelindustrien har oppslutning i den norske befolkningen, og anser du dette som en reell trussel mot folkehelsen på nåværende tidspunkt?

Jeg opplever ikke at konspirasjonsteorier har høy oppslutning, men at vi generelt har mistet tilliten vår til det offentlige helsevesenet eller moderne behandlingsmetoder er nok et mer utbredt problem. Det kan være alt fra kvinner som slutter på hormonelle prevensjonsmidler fordi det spres dårlig informasjon om risikoene, eller at man ikke vil høre på helsepersonell fordi man stoler mer på påvirkere og kjendiser. Det er jo flott at folk er med på beslutninger om egen helse og velvære, og utviklingen vekk fra at “legen bestemmer alt” er fantastisk. Men beveger vi oss for langt vekk, dit hen at legens fagkunnskap og erfaringer ikke lenger har en særskilt verdi, så er det også uheldig.

4. Mener du flere fra legestanden, og andre med faglig sterk medisinsk kompetanse, burde engasjere seg mer aktivt i det offentlige rom? Da spesielt med vekt på å yte motstand til dem som promoterer potensielt skadelige teorier og behandlinger. Og har du noen råd til de som vurderer å følge i dine fotspor?

Tja, jeg mener egentlig svært lite om hva andre burde gjøre. Og jeg ser så absolutt alle barrierene og hinderene som er til stede for å gjøre dette, spesielt i form av eksponeringen og stygge tilbakemeldinger som man ikke ønsker å utsette seg for. Men hvis det er noen der ute som har lyst til å formidle helsekunnskap så er mitt beste råd at de bare skal gjøre noe, hva som helst, heller enn å dvele for mye over hva og hvordan de skal spre informasjonen.

5. den grad du vil uttale deg om det juridiske: Er Lov om alternativ behandling av sykdom mv, som erstattet den gamle Kvakksalverloven, dekkende for våre dager? Burde det vært en strengere lovregulering på dette feltet, og burde det offentlige vært mer proaktive i å anvende deteksisterende lovverket til å slå ned på useriøse aktører?

Jeg synes så absolutt at regelverket må være strengere. Det er helt nødvendig å beskytte befolkningen fra alle de useriøse aktørene. Ikke fordi folk er for dumme til å passe på seg selv, men fordi det er rått parti når store kommersielle aktører rotter seg sammen for å selge oss løgner.
